Car Mechanics offers you a unique experience of training and learning the trade within a real garage environment. Our aim is to help you to develop a career within the Motor Vehicle industry, by providing you with a high quality practical education.
We have a fully functioning garage and workshops, which are equipped to meet industry standards. This will enable you to gain your experience in a real setting that will help you to progress seamlessly into the industry. All of our staff have the appropriate industrial backgrounds that provides our high standard of teaching.
The majority of lessons are practical based, as we believe this is the best way to learn a practical trade; by getting hands-on experience. There will also be essential elements of theory within the courses we offer, in order to gain the standard qualifications.
We offer a full range of courses and levels starting at Entry Level to Level 3. This means that it is possible to start learning with little or no previous qualifications and eventually progress on to a Level 3 course, in Motor Vehicle Technology.
What will I learn?
You will learn core theoretical and practical skills, from Health and Safety to Mathematical and Scientific Principles. Plus, you will gain experience in practical sessions in our real working garage and workshops.
What qualification will I gain?
From Entry Level 3 to a full Level 3 technician standard or a BTEC Level 3 in Automotive Technology. For explanations of our qualifications, please see our Qualification Explained page.
What progression options will I have?
You can progress from Entry Level to a Level 3 course with the College. If you gain employment, you are able to go on to an Apprenticeship up to a Level 3. After your course you can gain employment within the industry, or go on to do a Higher National Certificate/Diploma, Higher Apprenticeship or university. What costs are involved?
You will need overalls and steel toe-cap boots for practical work, plus classroom materials and textbooks. Full-time Further Education courses are free for students aged 16-18, you may have to pay some or all of your fees if you are aged 19 plus, but please see our Student Finance page for further information. These vary from no formal qualifications, to five GCSE’s including Maths and English, depending on your level of study.
