Professional Diploma Performance (Dance)

The L4 Professional Diploma in Performance provides learners with an exciting opportunity to develop and enhance their performance skills in an outstanding environment, working with industry professional actors and directors.

The qualification has been designed to provide students with an opportunity to stretch and refine their practical skills levels whilst maintaining their own personal interests and expertise.

This qualification offers broad but in-depth knowledge and skills in preparation for work in the Performing Arts sector. For such roles we believe this qualification provides an appropriate level of knowledge and skills meeting the needs of the sector and the individual, ensuring employees are appropriately skilled for the job and able to deliver to the standard that the sector expects.

This Study Programme includes opportunities for you to develop your English and maths skills as required. You will be expected to complete either functional skills or GCSE qualifications as part of your course depending on your GCSE results if you are 18 years old.

All assignments are modelled on professional practice.

Students will be required to Pass all three units to be award the qualification:

• Unit 1: Applied Professional Practice
• Unit 2: Specialist Performance Technique
• Unit 3: Specialist Performance Project

Units 1 and 2 are graded Pass only. The overall qualification is graded based on Unit 3 and is graded as Fail, Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Entry requirements?

Applicants must be 18 years or older by August 31, and have achieved five Grade A-Cs at GCSE, and a qualification at Level 3 such as 3 A- Level, Apprenticeship, BTEC etc.

Experience within the Performing Arts industry in school, amateur, or professional theatre, film or events would be an advantage but not essential.

Applicants will audition and interview where you will perform a song or solo dance of your choice and will be asked to explain your commitment to dancing and performing. You may also be asked to complete an academic task.

Exam and Registration Fees (payable by all aged 19 and over): £175

Assessment will be against the specified marking criteria.

This unit will be internally assessed, internally and externally moderated through a students’ portfolio of evidence against the learning outcomes. The unit is graded Pass, Merit, Distinction and will determine the overall grade for the Professional Diploma.
