3D Design (Year 1)

This course delivers the essential career skills for a career in Architecture, Product Design or Interior Design, extending further into Industrial Design, Model making and CAD/CAM prototype development.

Core skills delivered are; Design cycle, Working with Scale and Dimension; Orthographic and Axonometric Plan and Projection, understanding and implementing ergonomic and anthropometric data, 1-2-3 Point Perspective, 2-Point Perspective from plan, 2D and 3D Rendering, Presentation skills and project management.

Aspiring designers will explore sustainability and environmental issues that impact on design thinking and application whilst world-wide cultural references are drawn upon. ‘Live’ projects with leading companies and universities are set, leading to successful placements. Life-Drawing, Portfolio skills become increasingly important in the second year.

Members have the opportunity to enter nationally recognised competitions such as the RSA, with previous students being invited to show their work at the Grand Designs Show in London.

This course includes the opportunity to take part in an industry placement in a sector relevant to your qualification and study programme. The placement will take place 1 or 2 days per week on the days when you are not in college studying. Industry placements are designed to give you the skills to start work at the end of your studies, progress into an apprenticeship, or to add to your UCAS statement.

What qualification will I gain?

UAL Level 3 Diploma in Art and Design (3D Design)

Entry requirements?

4 GCSE A* - C grades or equivalent.
(inc English and Maths)

Portfolio and interview.

Formal academic requirements may be waived for mature applicants but portfolio and interview still apply.

What progression options will I have?

Into Year 2 Extended Diploma through successful completion of year 1; then Higher Education or Employment.

Exam and Registration Fees (payable by all aged 19 and over): £170

Other Costs (payable by all students): £150 Annual Company Contribution
