3D, Animation & Graphic Design
The Level 2 3D, Animation and Graphic Design programme is ideal for the student who is looking to take their first step into the creative industries.
Employers are searching for talented designers and artists with technical knowledge and strong industry-based skills. This course will enable you to gain an understanding of how the 3D, Animation and Graphic Design industries work and will allow you to engage in creative projects that have been constructed to help introduce you to creative opportunities for personal growth and progression.
You’ll be working in a studio of like-minded creatives with access to Mac based studios, industry standard software such as the Adobe Creative Cloud suite, Autodesk Maya, graphic tablets, small and large format printers, 3D studios, 3D printers and a laser-cutter. You’ll also be introduced to traditional print-based and illustration methods, materials and techniques.
The Creative Digital Design department at NKC prides itself in delivering an outstanding experience across a range of courses that focus on enhancing opportunities for our students to gain access into the extremely competitive creative industries.
Our Study Programme includes opportunities for you to develop your English and Maths skills as required. You may be expected to complete either functional skills or GCSE qualifications as part of your course depending on your GCSE results.
What qualification will I gain?
UAL Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design
Level 1 Diploma in Art & Design or Four GCSE’s graded between 9 –3. A portfolio and successful interview is also required.
What progression options will I have?
The Level 2 Award and Diploma allows students to progress into their preferred specialist Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma courses within Creative Digital Design. Choosing from the areas below:

What costs are involved?
16-18 - free
19+ - £1650 tuition fee & £170 registration fee
Other Costs (payable by all students): £150 Annual Company Contribution
This course may also attract additional costs, for example, kit, uniform or books, that all students will be required to pay. Please contact the College for further details.
How will I be assessed?
The course is made up of 8 units of work that has been built into industry standard project briefs covering three main areas of design. Units 1 – 7 are assessed on a Pass or Fail basis whereas Unit 7 (FMP) is assessed as a Pass, Merit or Distinction.
Units 1 and 2 of the Level 2 Award in Art & Design will be internally assessed and internally verified through students’ portfolios of evidence and is subject to UAL Awarding Body’s external quality assurance. Unit 3–7 of the Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design will be internally assessed and internally verified against the assessment and grading criteria for those units. Units 8 of the Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design will be internally assessed and internally and externally moderated against the assessment criteria for those units.
To achieve a Pass in any unit all assessment criteria must be met. Additionally, Unit 8 is graded, Pass, Merit or Distinction. To achieve a Merit or Distinction, all grade criteria in the respective categories must be met in full. Failure to meet assessment criteria will lead to referral. Students are allowed one opportunity to redeem a referral and can only achieve at Pass grade.
