Art and Design About Within our Art and Design departments we offer a range of specialist courses which include Fine Art, Graphics, 3D Design, Fashion, and Applied Arts courses that are taught by professional artists and designers. The staff continue to maintain strong links with the industry, which enables many opportunities. Our courses allow you to develop your creativity and gain experience that is showcased at our annual Summer Show, which attracts many industry professionals and generates media interest each year. These courses lay the foundations required for university entry and onward career development. The UAL Level 1 and Level 2 Diplomas in Art and Design provide a pathway for progression to the next level and eventually to one of the specialist Level 3 Diploma Courses. Whilst the Level 4 UAL Foundation Diploma is the key to gaining entry to the top UK arts universities. What will I learn? You will learn how to be a professional Artist or Designer; with the skills, confidence and discipline, to progress on to university and/or your chosen career. What qualification will I gain? UAL Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design, equivalent to 4 GCSEs. UAL Level 3 Diploma/Extended Diploma in Art and Design, equivalent to 3 A-Levels overall. UAL Level 4 Foundation Diploma in Art and Design. This is the expected qualification to gain entry to an art or design degree programme. For explanations of our qualifications, please see our Qualification Explained page. What progression options will I have? You can progress from Levels 1 to 4 at the College. On completion of your course you can go on to some of the most prestigious Arts courses and universities, including; UAL, Goldsmiths, UCA and Ravensbourne, while others go on to do freelance work in the industry. Universities expect students to have studied the UAL Level 4 Foundation Diploma in Art and Design before entering their Degree programmes. In fact, this diploma is recognised across the UK as the primary entry route to the best courses at the most prestigious universities, with more than 15,000 students completing the qualification each year. What costs are involved? You will need to pay a £150 per year Company contribution fee, which supports the Industry Studio Environment based costs. Full-time Further Education courses are free for students aged 16-18, you may have to pay some or all of your fees if you are aged 19 plus, but please see our Student Finance page for further information. Entry requirements? You must have a real passion for your chosen specialism and commitment to The Miskin Arts ethos; entry is by informal interview, school report and portfolio. Four GCSEs A*-C/9-4 grade including English and Maths are required for the Level 3 Diplomas. The Level 4 Foundation Diploma requires 1 A Level or a Level 3 in an art or design relevant subject plus 3 GCSEs at Grade C or above as a minimum, including Maths & English.
