The Secretarial and Business Administration Department offers a wide range of courses that are employment focused and highly recognised by employers. We have a high level of achievement and progression into employment and further education and have prominent recognition with employers.Well qualified staff are friendly and supportive with up-to-date industrial knowledge, which creates a mature learning environment where students are valued.

You will also have the opportunity to undertake work experience with local and London businesses as we are part of the Careers Academy UK. This enables students to gain experience and even employment with some of the most reputable organisations in London. Through this the Department has notable links with high profile law firms in London.

By studying Secretarial or Business Administration, you will gain current IT skills and develop interpersonal and communication competencies. Full and part-time courses are offered in secretarial, legal secretarial and business administration. Apprenticeships are available for business administration, customer service, team leading telesales and management, but you must be in employment first.

What will I learn?

General secretarial and business administration - secretarial skills such as; word processing, audio typing, business presentations and shorthand. Business administration skills and knowledge such as, communication in business, teamwork, financial transactions and diary management. IT skills and knowledge, including, spread sheets, databases, presentations and integrated documents.

Legal secretarial – legal word processing and audio typing, business skills in the legal environment, legal studies, information processing using spreadsheets, presentations and shorthand.

What qualification will I gain?

We offer a Level 1, 2 or 3 in Diploma in Administration, a Level 1, 2 or 3 Award in Information Technology, or a Level 2 or 3 Diploma for Legal Secretaries. For explanations of our qualifications, please see our Qualification Explained page.

What progression options will I have?

Progression from Level 1 to Level 3 courses is available or on completion of your course you can progress into employment in industry. Career opportunities include; legal secretary, personal assistant, junior secretary, administrator, or receptionist. You are also able to progress on to an apprenticeship, should you find employment. What costs are involved?

Generally you will have to pay for textbooks; the costs will vary depending on your course. Full-time Further Education courses are free for students aged 16-18, you may have to pay some or all of your fees if you are aged 19 plus, but please see our Student Finance page for further information. If you are enrolling on a part-time course, fees are applicable.

Entry Requirements?

For Level 1 you will need a minimum of two GCSEs at grade E/2 or above, including English Language. For Level 2 you will need minimum of three GCSEs grades A*to C(9-4), including English Language. For Level 3 you require a minimum of five GCSEs Grades A* to C(9-4), including English Language.
