Legal & Office Support


The Legal & Office Support department offers legal secretarial courses that are employment focused and highly recognised by employers. We have a high level of achievement and progression into employment and have prominent recognition with employers. Well-qualified staff are friendly and supportive with up-to-date industrial knowledge, which creates a mature learning environment where students are valued. 

The legal secretarial courses offered at Level 2 (introductory course suitable for year 11 leavers) and Level 3 (advanced course suitable for candidates aged 17+) cover all aspects of the skills and knowledge required to carry out administrative and secretarial tasks including the preparation of legal documentation, the development of IT skills to a professional standard, and interpersonal and communication skills. Apprenticeships are available in business administration and legal administration but it is recommended that you complete a Level 2 course first. 

All students are encouraged to undertake work experience to complement their course but Level 3 students will have the opportunity to apply for work experience placements available through the College, with employers based locally and in London. This enables students to gain experience in a professional environment, demonstrate their skills and knowledge, and could potentially lead to employment at the end of the course. The Legal & Office Support department has established links with some of the most high profile law firms in London.

What will I learn?

Skills and knowledge acquired on the courses include how to create and edit advanced legal documents from written text and dictated speech; the production of professional documents using the Microsoft Office software suite including spreadsheets and presentations; business skills necessary to work in the legal environment; legal terminology and knowledge of different areas of law.

What qualification will I gain?

What progression options will I have?

Progression from Level 2 to Level 3 is available on completion of your course, whether it be the full-time Level 3 Legal Secretary course or a Level 3 Legal Admin apprenticeship or alternatively you can progress into a trainee role in industry. Career opportunities for Level 3 students on completion of their course include job roles such as junior legal secretary, trainee personal assistant, team assistant, legal admin assistant in local solicitors or law firms in London. 

What costs are involved?

Generally you will have to pay for coursebooks; the costs will vary depending on your course. Full-time Further Education courses are free for students aged 16-18, you may have to pay some or all of your fees if you are aged 19 plus, but please see our Student Finance page for further information. If you are enrolling on a part-time course, fees are applicable. 

Entry Requirements?

For Level 2 you need a minimum of three GCSEs grades 9-4, including English Language. For Level 3 you need a minimum of five GCSEs Grades 9-4, including English Language.
