Photography offers high-quality, specialist teaching from staff who have built their own careers within the Photography industry. Aspiring Photographers will gain an understanding of cameras and their controls, composition and visual language. 

You will benefit from using highly professional equipment including the use of a range of the latest DSLR’s cameras, film camera’s and lenses. You will have access to professional standard digital imaging and editing software, including; Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, Bridge and Light-Room. You will learn to scan, print and edit digital images using this professional software. 

We have two well-equipped photographic studios where you will benefit from excellent technical support from the Photography team. You will also have access to our four Mac computer suites, plus you will gain experience in using the darkroom to develop your hand-printing skills. You will also get the opportunity to work with 35mm, medium format systems and black and white film developing. 

The course will enhance your photographic skills, which can be applied to a range of employment opportunities or undergraduate study. These include; an Apprenticeship to a career as a Photographer, Darkroom or Studio Technician, Photo-Journalist, Photographic Digital editor, or a Multimedia Designer. 

You are able to progress from the Level 2 course onto our Level 3 course and from Level 3 on to our Foundation Degree in Photography, which continues on to our BA (Hons) in Photography. Some of our Photographers go on to the top universities in the country, while other’s gain employment or Apprenticeships in the Photography industry.

What will I learn?

You will gain an understanding of cameras and their controls, composition and visual language, through learning to use digital cameras and the software to enhance your images.

What qualification will I gain?

You can gain a UAL Level 2 Diploma or a UAL Level 3 Diploma/Extended Diploma over 2 years. You can also go on to study the Foundation Degree and the BA (Hons) on Photography. For explanations of our qualifications, please see our Qualification Explained page.

What progression options will I have?

You can progress onto the Foundation Degree in Photography at the College, which can lead into the BA (Hons) in Photography, which is also offered at the College and is affiliated with the University of Greenwich. You are also able to go straight into the Photography industry.

What costs are involved?

You will need to pay £150 Company contribution fee per year, plus any materials, visits or exhibition contributions. This contribution goes towards the industry-based working studio environment that the photographers work in.
Full-time Further Education courses are free for students aged 16-18, you may have to pay some or all of your fees if you are aged 19 plus, but please see our Student Finance pagefor further information. If you are enrolling on a Higher Education course, fees are applicable.

Entry Requirements?

For the Level 3 Diploma, you will need a minimum of four GCSE A*-C/9-4 grades or equivalent, including Maths and English, plus evidence of a Portfolio and good school report and you will need to undergo an Interview. Formal academic requirements may be waived for mature applicants but Portfolio and Interview still apply.
