Girl’s Football Academy due to launch September 2017

North Kent College are delighted to announce the creation of a Girl’s Academy for September 2017.

Taster days for the new Girl’s Academy will take place at our Dartford Campus and will give potential students the chance to find out more about the course and what it will entail. The taster day will be on January 26th, with trial dates in the months following; the first one being February 17th, for the 2017/2018 season. Registration for these days is now open on the College website.

The Girl’s Academy, under the guidance of Ciara Sherwood (Crystal Palace FC & Northern Ireland) will see the scheme provide an opportunity to female players of all abilities to combine football with their academic studies whilst at College. Ciara has joined APD to oversee the development of a North Kent College Girl’s Football Academy for the 2017-2018 academic year. A former player at Millwall Lionesses, Ciara offers a new dynamic to the existing football provision.

The existing Boy’s Academy at NKC joined forces with professional UEFA Licenced coaches from APD in September 2016, aiming to give players a higher standard of match play, with around 10 marquee games per season against professional club academies across the country and in Europe.

The educational scheme offers the chance for girls and boys to fulfil their potential in the classroom and on the football pitch, with access to state-of-the-art facilities at North Kent College’s Dartford Campus, delivered in the new £22million Osterberg Sports Centre, and on the College’s high quality pitches. Graduates of the Boy’s Academy have gone on to play football, coach at high levels and progressed onto scholarships at US Universities.

Along with league matches and pre-season friendlies against local professional and non-league clubs, the programme includes guest coaches from professional clubs and specialist goalkeeping coaches attending regularly.

James Butterfill; NKC Sport Curriculum Manager commented, “This will see an opportunity for female players to express themselves within the game. To my knowledge there are a limited number of schemes such as this and we hope that we can support the development of our young performers on the pitch and in the classroom.”

This follows on from the successful launch of the Boy’s Football Academy in September 2016, which has given students the chance to improve both academic qualifications as well as progressing their skills on the field. The Boy’s Academy taster day for 2017 entry will take place on January 27th, with the first trial day taking place on February 10th
