Global Law Firm Ashurst LLP inspires Legal Secretarial Students.

27th November 2017

Legal Secretarial students benefited from a visit by the global law firm, Ashurst LLP, to North Kent College to discuss their work experience programme. Every student on the City & Guilds/CILEx Level 3 Diploma for Legal Secretaries programme was given an informative “Working at Ashurst” booklet, which described the role of the Team Assistant, as well as a day in the life of an Executive Assistant. Joanne Mills and Deana O’Shea, Team Leaders at Ashurst, were joined by Alumni of North Kent College, Stacey Bull, Aimee Thornton and Taz Marsden, whom are now employed by Ashurst LLP, to give information and advice to the current students on their progression options.

Hayley Green, Curriculum Manager of Legal & Office Support commented, “By working together, we are able to provide our learners with practical experience of a real working environment, which will prepare them for an exciting, demanding and fast-changing industry. We are proud to be associated with such a prestigious law firm and to receive their positive feedback in relation to how we are delivering our Legal Secretarial programme and the quality of the students who commence their legal careers at Ashurst.”

Sylvia Heath, Senior Manager of Secretarial Services at Ashurst said "Ashurst has worked with North Kent College for a number of years and have appointed a number of their students into successful Team Assistant and Trainee Executive Assistant roles across all our practice groups.  Ashurst has been impressed with the quality of applicants from North Kent College: they all bring a high level of enthusiasm and ambition, as well as a similar cultural fit, that has helped establish themselves in the firm and develop in their roles."

Stacey Bull, Trainee Executive Assistant at Ashurst, spoke of how she was at North Kent College three years ago, “Going back to North Kent College to present to them about Ashurst was extremely rewarding; everyone was very welcoming and it is comforting to know that after leaving college you still get the support from the tutors. North Kent College has a great relationship with Ashurst and that was highlighted once again when we visited in October. I have transferred so many of my skills that I learnt from college into my role as a Trainee Legal Executive Assistant and thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the North Kent College students and answering questions regarding Ashurst and their future."
