Theatrical Make-up Artistry students discover the art of the Theatre.

Level 3 Theatrical Make-up students received inspiration and guidance during exam preparation, by attending a performance of Phantom of the Opera in the West End.
Students had been preparing for the trip, as part of their coursework. Each student was given an element of the show to research beforehand, and it was then those key items that they were to look for during the performance, to culminate in a final presentation once back at college. The trip was also organised to help them acknowledge the range of backstage roles available as a future career progression after completing their studies.
Chloe Hsiai, Make-up Artistry Lecturer, described how the students “were blown away by the energy of the performers. The students were focusing on the techniques used to create the final looks such as special effects, lighting, make-up, wigs and more”.
The students took everything they viewed on board and were thankful for the opportunity given to them. One student, Dana Atkins, said how it was a great trip for the course, commenting, “It was very interesting to see the extent of work put into the show. We were able to see the final outcome of a theatre production, which has helped us learn about the industry, and has inspired me even more!”
