Victory for Carpentry and Joinery student, Daniel Brown!

31st May 2018

Congratulations to our Carpentry and Joinery student, Daniel Brown, who has won the ‘Best in Kent’ award at this year’s carpentry competition.

Daniel has been our top student all year, he has just completed his level 1 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery - the first in his group to complete. He is very enthusiastic and wants to enter every competition going. The Best in Kent competition was Daniel's second competition that he has entered. In his first competition, ‘the KFEC’ held at our Gravesend Campus back in February, he finished a very commendable second, narrowly missing out on the top spot by just a few marks.  Now he has topped that by claiming the 'Best in Kent' award where he was up against around a dozen others.

Mark Milner, Lecturer in Carpentry & Joinery, commented, “From early in his course at North Kent College Daniel demonstrated his aptitude for carpentry. He has worked hard throughout the year, completing practical tasks ahead of schedule and developing his natural ability. Daniel is able to read and interpret drawings and specifications, check his materials, and work in sequence through the task. It is these skills which led to him winning the title ‘Best in Kent’ at this year’s carpentry competition.”

Daniel’s third competition is Friday 1st June in Stratford, London, where he is entering the Worshipful Company of Joiners annual craft competition. The top prize is £1000, which always and does attract top quality entrants. Daniel remains realistic about his chances in this competition but it will be a fantastic experience for him. We wish Daniel all the best in the competition and look forward to hearing how he gets on.
