North Kent College pass Cyber Essentials Assessment

29th April 2019

We are proud to announce that as of 15th April 2019, North Kent College were officially accredited by IASME for passing their Cyber Essentials Assessment.

This Cyber Essentials accreditation is aimed at making sure that sensitive data belonging to students and staff at North Kent College, is securely back up and protected from cyber criminals.

Sean McCormick, Executive Director for Facilities & Resources, commented on the work put in to achieve this saying, “Preparing for this assessment has been a long process, involving a lot of hard work and I would like to thank all who helped.  The understanding of staff and students where changes were required to be made, was also important in making this accreditation possible”.

The five basic controls that were assessed were Compliance, Professionalism, Increases in Cyber Attacks, Security and Proactively Resolve Vulnerabilities. These were chosen because, when properly implemented, they will help to protect against unskilled internet-based attackers which are increasingly becoming more frequent for unprepared organisations.

Cyber Essentials aims to help organisations implement basic levels of protection against cyber-attack, demonstrating to their customers that they take cyber security seriously.  The scheme is available at two levels, and even though the College has achieved the standard of Cyber Essentials, they plan to continue to work towards achieving the Cyber Essentials Plus.
