North Kent College splash out with successes at Young Painter of The Year Competition!

2nd May 2019

A huge well done to our painting and decorating students, Cameron Moncrief, Francesca Fordham, Aaran Neville and Lennie Uden who participated in Johnstone’s ‘Young Painter of the Year’ South East region competition.

The competition took place on 1st May at East Kent College in Folkestone. The competition involved learners being given a template drawing with specific measurements. They were required to set out a drawing using measuring tools and eye co-ordination using straight & plumb lines with the additional use of beam compasses to produce circles or semi circles. A very complex task!

North Kent College students were chosen for the competition due to the skills demonstrated within workshops during general college lessons.

Assistant Curriculum Manager, Construction Crafts, Karen Wyatt commented, “The College is always happy to support learners in extending their range of skills, especially within competitions as it gives the learners a sense of pride in seeing what they can achieve outside of the box with general day to day painting skills. I am very pleased with the additional work which my learners put in to go that extra mile for themselves and the College. The skills which these learners show are impeccable and I am very proud to work alongside them with their development and training".

All of the students placed in the top five of the competition Lennie achieved 2nd place winning £100 prize and a great bag of goodies!

Following on from this competition, three more students are destined for The Painting and Decorating Association competition in Bournemouth next week and another three will be travelling to Brighton for Skillbuild 2019.

We wish them the best of luck and we look forward to hearing how they get on.
