How do apprenticeships work?

The apprentice will be employed by you for at least 30 hours per week (in most circumstances) and be paid at least the applicable National Minimum Wage for Apprentices.

Training will be on-the-job in your workplace combined with training by MidKent College or North Kent College, which could involve attending classes at a college campus.

The training will vary according to the nature of your business and the type of apprenticeship, but all apprenticeships will include:

• Competence-based element
• Knowledge-based element
• English, maths and ICT
• Employment rights and responsibilities
• Personal learning and thinking skills.

The apprenticeship will take between one and four years to complete depending on the level of training required. We will support you, and your apprentice, continually throughout the training. You will be assigned a dedicated apprenticeship training officer as your main point of contact and we will agree a training plan with you and your apprentice.
