Thank you for applying to join our Applied Theatre course at the Miskin Theatre North Kent College Tonbridge. We are really looking forward to meeting you. Please arrive in the College Reception for 10am. You will be finished by 2pm, or before, depending on the time your audition /interview is. Please note parents/guardians/friends will not be able to stay on site after registration.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN ON THE DAY?
You will:
- Fill out an interview form.
- Have a welcome chat with one of the Theatre Directors.
- Be shown around the theatre and see our amazing facilities.
- Watch current rehearsals and/or participate in workshops led by the Miskin Theatre Team.
- Take part in an interview and share the work you have prepared.
WHAT YOU NEED TO PREPARE?
You will need a positive school report/recommendation/reference from your school/tutor. You will need to bring a written statement that expresses your interest in applied theatre. You will be required to attend an interview and audition where you need to prepare two of the following that represent your key strengths:
- A contemporary monologue (post 2000)
- Character Song
- Technical Theatre portfolio
- Piece of choreographed dance (max 1:30mins)
- A prop, lighting, sound or costume design
- Theatre review (word processed)
You will also take part in a practical company workshop on the day. The outcome of your audition/interview will be assessed by the directors, and they will let you know if you have been successful.
PLEASE AVOID:
- Monologues from Dennis Kelly’s DNA, An Inspector Calls or Blood Brothers.
- Monologues downloaded from the internet.
- Classical Monologues (William Shakespeare)
DON’T PANIC ABOUT THE AUDITION
Auditioning and interviewing is usual practice within the Performing Arts industry, and something that you will become very familiar with as you continue your applied theatre training. We are looking for potential and enthusiasm.
WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING?
- Wear comfy, non-revealing, loose clothing.
- Bring bottled water, no other drinks are allowed in the Theatre.
- Be ready to talk about your passion for applied theatre and your reasons for wanting to come to the Miskin.
- Bring a packed lunch or money for food if you want to have lunch in our canteen.
- Recent school report.
- Passport size photo with your name printed on the back (you will hand this in on arrival).
WHAT WILL HAPPEN AFTER YOUR AUDITION?
You will be called confirming one of the following:
- Level 3 Applied Theatre - Conditional offer
- Level 2 Applied Theatre - Conditional offer
- Recall
- No offer
AND FINALLY...
If you have any learning difficulties or require learning support, it is really important that you let us know on your audition day so that the right measures can be taken to support you. If you have an EHCP please bring this along on the day.
