Thank you for applying to join our Applied Theatre course at Miskin Tonbridge. We are really looking forward to meeting you.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN ON THE DAY?
On your audition day please arrive in the College Reception before 10:00am. Shortly after arriving you will be greeted by a member of the Creative Team, who will escort you to one of our Rehearsal spaces.
At this point parents/guardians/friends can either remain in Reception or leave North Kent College campus. After arriving in the space you will be given a brief introduction to the day by one of the Directors. You may be given a tour of the Rehearsal and Performing Spaces, shortly before taking part in a workshop with the other applicants. The workshop is a part of the audition day, and is important any applicant who is interested in being on the course takes part.
After this, will be given a lunch break, as well as the times for your audition. These will be single slots, meaning you won’t be auditioned/interviewed in front of other applicants. After your audition/interview you will be free to leave North Kent College.
WHAT YOU NEED TO PREPARE?
You will be required to attend an audition and interview day where you will need to prepare two of the following that represents your key strengths:
- A Contemporary Monologue from a published play, post 2000
- Technical Theatre Portfolio
- A prop, lighting, sound or costume design
- A word-processed Theatre Review
During the interview you will be asked questions on the selection of your material, this is for the Creative team to understand your choices, and to see what kind of Creative could be on their course for the following academic year.
PLEASE AVOID:
- Monologues from Dennis Kelly’s DNA, An Inspector Calls or Blood Brothers.
- Monologues downloaded from the internet.
- Classical Monologues (William Shakespeare)
DON’T PANIC ABOUT THE AUDITION
Auditioning and interviewing is usual practice within the Performing Arts industry, and something that you will become very familiar with as you continue your training on the Applied Theatre course. We are looking for potential and enthusiasm and are interested in who you really are. So, we encourage you to be yourself!
WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING?

Wear comfy, non-revealing, loose clothing.

Bring bottled water, no other drinks are allowed in the Rehearsal and Performing Spaces.

Be ready to talk about your passion for Theatre and your reasons for wanting to come to The Miskin Tonbridge.

Bring a packed lunch or money for food if you want to have lunch in our canteen.

Recent school report, including any ‘working at grades’ and School attendance.

A Passport-sized photo with your name printed on the back.

A written statement about why you should be considered for the course, as well as speaking about your skills, strengths and interests in the Performing Arts.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN AFTER YOUR AUDITION?
Within two days of your audition/interview you will be contacted by one of the Creative Team to give you the outcome on your application. Your outcome will be one of the following options
- Level 3 Applied Theatre - Conditional offer
- Level 2 Applied Theatre - Conditional offer
- Recall – Where you will be given feedback on what to prepare, and a new date to return to North Kent College.
- No offer – Where you will be given feedback explaining why.
AND FINALLY...
If you have any learning difficulties or require learning support, it is really important that you let us know on your audition/interview day so that the right measures can be taken to support you. If you have an EHCP please bring this along on the day.
