The UAL Level 4 Professional Diploma in Performance (Acting) provides learners with an exciting opportunity to develop and enhance their performance skills in an outstanding environment, working with industry professional actors and directors.

The qualification has been designed to provide students with an opportunity to stretch and refine their practical skills levels whilst maintaining their own personal interests and expertise.

This qualification offers broad but in-depth knowledge and skills in preparation for work in the Performing Arts sector. For such roles we believe this qualification provides an appropriate level of knowledge and skills meeting the needs of the sector and the individual, ensuring employees are appropriately skilled for the job and able to deliver to the standard that the sector expects.

All assignments are modelled on professional practice.

Students will be required to Pass all three units to be awarded the qualification:

  • Unit 1: Applied Professional Practice

  • Unit 2: Specialist Performance Technique

  • Unit 3: Specialist Performance Project

Units 1 and 2 are graded Pass only. The overall qualification is graded based on Unit 3 and is graded as Fail, Pass, Merit or Distinction. This unit will be externally verified.

  • What qualification will I gain?

    UAL L4 Professional Diploma in Perfomance (Acting)

  • Entry Requirements

    Applicants must be 18 years or older and have achieved a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts at merit grade or, A-Levels (C and above, including Drama). Ideally GCSE English and Maths at minimum Grade 4 or equivalent. Experience of working within a performing arts production or technical role in school, amateur, or professional theatre, film or events would be an advantage but not essential.

    Applicants will audition and interview where you will perform a monologue of your choice and will be asked to explain your commitment to acting and performing. You may also be asked to complete an academic task and participate in a group workshop.The outcome of your audition/interview will be assessed by the directors and they will let you know if you have been successful on the day.

  • What progression options will I have?

    Higher Education, Drama School, studying on BA Hons and Foundation Degree level programmes. Employment.

  • What costs are involved?

    Tuition Fees: 16-18 - free 19+ Advanced Learning Loan - TBA Exam and Registration Fees (payable by all aged 19 and over): TBA

    Other Costs (payable by all students): £100 Annual Fee (including Ticket Pass to all internal productions) This course may also attract additional costs, for example, kit, uniform or books, that all students will be required to pay. Please contact the College for further details.

  • How will I be assessed?

    All of your work will follow a vocational scenario or context that simulates a real-world situation. This course is 100 % coursework. You will present your work in a range of formats. You will be assessed on your research, development and experimentation and final outcomes and you will be encouraged to develop your work and professional practice through evaluation and self-reflection. . Project Proposal . Production Portfolio . Production Project . Observation

    Assessment will be against the specified marking criteria.

    Unit 1 and 2 are graded Pass/Fail units that are internally assessed.

    Unit 3 is graded Pass, Merit, Distinction, Fail and is internally assessed and externally moderated. This unit will determine the overall grade for the overall L4 Professional Diploma Qualification
