Hospitality & Event Management

The BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Hospitality & Event Management introduces you to the world of Hospitality, customer service and event planning. It will allow you to develop the skills and knowledge required to progress into employment and/or continue your study in the vocational area.

The course consists of 6 units:

Unit 18 Marketing for Hospitality
Unit 16 Hospitality Business Enterprise
Unit 14 Environment and Sustainability in Hospitality
Unit 25 Personal and Professional Development in Hospitality
Additional Course – NCFE Level 2 Event Planning

The BTEC programme will use continuous assessment rather than examinations and you will be able to track your performance as you work towards the pass, merit and distinction grades. You will be encouraged to manage your own assessments and identify where you have met the required standards.

The programme is taught through theoretical, practical training and simulation. Each lesson will provide you with assessment opportunities as you work to achieve your goals and targets. You will need an active passion for hospitality & event planning and your tutors will encourage you to discuss your own achievements as well as the issues in modern hospitality. Much of your assessment will be online in the form of web logs (blogs) and discussion of key points.

During the course, there will be opportunities to achieve other qualifications in addition to your main BTEC programme. These additional qualifications may include, functional skills, event planning, first aid and customer services.

As part of the study programme the learners will be expected to undertake 160 hours work experience within the Hospitality and Events Industry

This course includes the opportunity to take part in an industry placement in a sector relevant to your qualification and study programme. The placement will take place 1 or 2 days per week on the days when you are not in college studying. Industry placements are designed to give you the skills to start work at the end of your studies, progress into an apprenticeship, or to add to your UCAS statement.

Entry requirements?

The course requires successful applicants to have 5 GCSEs grades A*- C; these must include English and Maths. Successful applicants must also demonstrate a willingness to become involved in all aspects of hospitality, including the practical experiences as well as the theoretical.

What progression options will I have?

Level 3 Diploma in Hospitality or in the future, a Higher Education course in Hospitality or Event Planning.
Employment.

How will I be assessed?

Methods of assessment may include web blogs, presentations, practical demonstrations, posters, reports, leaflets, interviews and discussions.
