Hospitality & Catering


Our Hospitality and Catering programmes will help you to develop a career in one of the fastest growing and dynamic industries in the United Kingdom. Our programmes of study will build on the knowledge and skills that you require, for a rewarding career within the Hospitality industry.

Hospitality and Catering courses are offered in our modern professional catering facility, which is based at the Gravesend Campus. This includes industry standard kitchens and service areas, a fully functional restaurant, which is open to the public and highly-equipped classrooms. You will be taught by specialists, who are able to pass on first-hand experience of working within the industry. 

On completion of your programme of study you will be able to begin a career as a Chef, Food and Beverage personnel, Supervisors and Managers. These programmes will be enriched and supported with relevant trips, events and guest speakers, making the overall learning experience stimulating and exciting. 

Professional industry placements are offered as part of your study programme and will enrich your knowledge of the industry and help you develop the skills required to work in the Hospitality and Catering industry.

What will I learn? 

You will gain knowledge and develop practical skills in our well equipped kitchens, restaurant and classrooms. You will be assessed for particular skills, practically, by short answer tests and assignment work.

What qualification will I gain? 

You will gain important skills for a career and industry recognised qualifications in Professional Cookery and Professional Food and Beverage. For explanations of our qualifications, please see our Qualification Explained page.

What progression options will I have? 

Successful completion of our Foundation course will allow progression on to our level 1 Diploma in Introduction to Professional Cookery course. Subsequently, successful completion of our Level 1 and 2 qualifications will allow progression to higher levels, Apprenticeships, or the skills required to directly enter the industry.

What costs are involved? 

There is the additional cost of uniform and knives of around £150. Full-time Further Education courses are free for students aged 16-18, you may have to pay some or all of your fees if you are aged 19 plus, but please see our Student Finance page for further information.

Entry requirements?

No formal qualifications are required for our Foundation Level course; 3-1 GCSE grades in English and Maths are advised for the Level 1 course; 9-4 GCSE grades for our Level 2 courses, including English and Maths; and 5 9-4 GCSE grades for our Level 3 Diploma.
