INTRODUCTION 

A warm welcome from all of us within the Hair, Beauty, Spa and Make up artistry department at North Kent College Dartford Campus.

We are delighted that you have chosen us to be your education provider to make those first steps in your chosen career, whether in the Hair, Beauty or Makeup industry.

SCHOOL REPORT & GRADE SHEET

You are required to bring with you, a copy of your most recent school or college report showing current attendance, working at grades and predicted grades (for applicants aged under 19 year). If you have already completed a qualification, please bring confirmation of grade with you.

INTERVIEW TASK

You are required to complete and bring with you, photographic evidence of any hair, beauty or make up techniques that you have demonstrated.

Write a minimum of 500 words to include research of career opportunities within the hair and beauty industries and what personal and technical skills are required. Tell us why you have chosen North Kent College as an education provider. 

WHAT WILL HAPPEN ON THE DAY?

All the interviews commence at 3 pm, you are welcome to bring with you a parent or supporter. Please arrive promptly, a presentation will commence at 3pm to explain our course offers, expectations, opportunities and kit and uniform costs. Applicants will then be interviewed by a team member. Please allow up to 2 hours for the conclusion of the process.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO PREPARE

Interview tasks

  • Research careers within the hair/beauty/make up industry.
  • Perform a hair/makeup/beauty application to a friend or family member and take photographic evidence of your work. 

WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING?

  • A copy of your most recent school or college report showing current attendance, working at grades and predicted grades(for applicants aged under 19 year). 
  • If you have already completed a qualification, please bring confirmation of grade with you.
  • Photographic evidence of any hair, beauty or make up techniques that you have demonstrated. 
  • Any evidence of learning needs/exam concessions/health considerations.

AND FINALLY…

Entry requirements are:  

Level 1 (GCSE Grade 1 in Maths, English, Science or above)  

Level 2 (GCSE Grade 3 in Maths, English, Science or above)  

Level 3 (GCSE Grade 4 in Maths, English, Science or above, plus successful completion of a Level 2 full diploma qualification in the relevant subject) 

You will be required to attend two taster days, prior to enrolment. The taster days are a fantastic opportunity to experience lessons and learn techniques within our department, a chance to meet the team and importantly, for the team to get to know you. Details of your allocated taster day will be provided at interview. 

Conditional offers will not be able to be given without submission of the photographic task, and if under 19 years of age, a satisfactory school/college report, evidence of attendance above 85%, current working grade and predicted grades.

If your attendance is not above 85% please inform us as to the reasons why for further consideration.

If you are homeschooled, you must be working towards as least a functional skills exam in Maths and English and a reference from your home tutor.

**All offers are subject to successful achievement during the taster day, demonstrating your passion for the industry, as well as submission of your written answers, photographic evidence, a satisfactory school report/employer reference and the achievement of your predicted grades. *
