Not only is 21 June the summer solstice, marking the longest day of the year, it’s also a global celebration of one of humanity’s greatest passions: music. It’s time to turn up the volume for World Music Day!
Also known as Fête de la Musique, World Music Day began in France in 1982, launched by the country’s Ministry of Culture.
What started as a nationwide call for citizens to take to the streets with their instruments has now grown into a global phenomenon, celebrated in over 120 countries and more than 1,000 cities around the world.
The spirit of the day is simple, make music and share it. Musicians of all levels, from beginners to professionals, are encouraged to perform in public spaces like streets, parks, and squares. From classical to hip-hop, jazz to rock, every genre is welcomed. It’s a day that breaks down barriers and unites people through rhythm, melody, and sound.
World Music Day isn’t just about performance, it’s about appreciation. It’s an invitation to listen, discover new genres, and connect with the universal language of music.
