Hairdressing and beauty reception

At North Kent College’s Tonbridge Campus, we are continuing to strengthen our reputation for career-focused beauty education, with students gaining hands-on experience, industry-recognised training and direct access to leading beauty brands.

Students studying our wide range of Beauty Therapy courses benefit from courses designed to reflect the realities of the modern beauty industry. From Spa & Beauty Therapy to Hair & Media Make-Up and Theatrical Make-Up, learners train from day one in professional, salon-style environments that mirror real workplaces. This practical approach ensures students build confidence alongside technical ability as they progress through their studies.

As well as mastering practical skills, our students develop the professional behaviours employers value most, including timekeeping, presentation, organisation and client care. The structured learning environment reflects industry expectations, helping students prepare for employment in salons, spas or further specialist training.

A standout feature of our beauty education is its strong partnership with high-profile industry brands. Collaborations with Eve Taylor, Dermalogica, Clarins and the Lee Stafford Education Academy give students access to specialist technical training, guest speakers and exclusive workshops. Learners also have opportunities to visit company headquarters and research laboratories, allowing them to gain insight into current industry standards and innovations.

The Hair and Beauty department at our Tonbridge Campus is led by Rebecca Hales, whose career began as a student at the college before progressing within the beauty industry. To ensure students get the most out of their learning experience, the department also focuses on building strong links with both national brands and local salons and spas. These connections help create valuable opportunities for work experience, additional training and future employment.

Rebecca said: “I’m incredibly proud of the real-life opportunities our students have access to. From working with well-known industry brands to gaining experience in local salons and spas, everything we do is about helping students feel confident, capable and ready for the next step into the beauty industry.”

The success of former students highlights the impact of this industry-led approach. Alumni include Jamie Arnold, who studied Level 3 Theatrical, Special Effects and Hair and Media Make-Up and went on to appear on BBC’s Glow Up, showcasing his talent to a national audience.

With growing industry partnerships and a clear focus on employability, we continue to support aspiring beauty professionals in turning their passion into a career. Students ready to take their first step into the industry can explore the college’s Beauty Therapy courses and find out more on the Beauty Therapy Course page.
