Following completion of an apprenticeship directly after leaving school, I qualified as an Electrical Engineer with an HNC in Electrical Building Services.
After working in Electrical Installation, I transitioned into sales with major manufacturers such as Honeywell, Siemens, and Invensys, holding key account management, and global positions. Seeking a better work-life balance, I then moved to Edmundson Electrical Ltd, with my role being to manage their export division.
I’d always wanted to teach and, after a successful career in industry, decided it was time to help youngsters get into the industry that has been so good to me. I’m now in my third year as a Lecturer in Electrical Installation.
Teaching has been both rewarding and challenging. My background has helped me to adapt quickly and confidently in engaging with students. I’ve found particular reward from working with SEND students, from shaping my own classroom and workshop environment, and from learning through completion of the TEEP course and my Teaching Qualification.
Having solid support from colleagues and management in the department, and from the Teaching and Learning team, has been key to my development and I feel proud to be contributing to preparing the next generation of electricians for their time in the industry.
