Level 3 Motor Vehicle Apprentice

Alex is curently studying for a Level 3 Motor Vehicle Apprenticeship at North Kent College. Here, who was studying at University, he tells us how taking a step back can sometimes be the right thing to do.

What made you choose to study at NKC?

I chose North Kent College due to it being located rather close to where I lived as well as my employer having a close partnership with the college since they sent a few previous apprentices there to study.

What would you say are the three best things about studying at NKC?

The best thing i would say is the teaching staff i currently have, they are very knowledgeable about their topics and are open to lots of questions being asked. Another great thing is the new workshop facilities- they provide the majority of the equipment you will ever need. Lastly but more of a general point is learning with a good group of people makes studying at NKC easier and a lot more fun.

Where do you now work and what's next for you?

i am currently studying in college once a week however the other four days I work at Horsepower Motor Centre and my plan is to gather as much knowledge on vehicles as I can while working for them.

What has been your route getting to your current position?

My route was a rather odd one. After finishing my A-Levels I followed onto the route for University, studying Motorsport Engineering which i did for a year, However throughout that year i realised i wanted to be a lot more hands-on when it came to working with vehicles so i applied to various companies, such as Porsche Tonbridge securing interviews and eventually settling for a garage that works on a wide range of motor vehicles.

Would you recommend studying at the College and why?

I highly recommend it, the facilities along with the amazing teachers makes it a wonderful place to study as long as you want it.

What would be the piece of advice you would give to someone thinking of coming to North Kent College?

Don't be afraid of taking a step back if you think it's the right thing. I do not regret leaving University for a college course since what I'm doing currently is making me a lot happier than if I were to continue University. For the people who are moving from school to college this is a great place to study at.
