Our level 4 Foundation Diploma in NxtGen Animation and Visual Storytelling course is aimed at the next generation of animators and visual storytellers, making their dream careers become reality. This course will equip students with the creative, technical, and storytelling skills needed to succeed in the rapidly evolving animation industry.

Students will explore and develop their specialism from concept to final production, they will develop and communicate ideas through compelling visuals, engaging narratives, and immersive ideas. Emphasis is placed on both traditional animation principles and evolving animation techniques, encouraging experimentation and creative risk-taking. Through hands-on and client-based projects, students will gain experience in industry-style workflows, building a professional portfolio that reflects their unique style and strengths. This course is not just about building animation skills; you will also leave the course with a portfolio and showreel that will help to promote your work and start your search for your dream job in the animation industry.

Our animation studios are equipped with Apple Macs, 3D printers, graphics tablets and iPads as well as having access to the Adobe Creative Cloud including Adobe Animate, Harmony Toon Boom, Blender other animation software, which is industry standard, there will be software workshops to support you during the course. We work closely with the industry meaning that we offer live client project briefs and opportunities for work experience.

We are committed to helping our students share their creativity beyond the college. We invite industry speakers into the college and also arrange visits to top animation studios where students have the opportunity to talk 1st hand and experience what it’s like to work in the industry.

Some of our most recent student achievements include short listings for animation at Origins Creatives and animation being selected for the ‘No Reason Short Film Festival’ in Bristol. Having a student animation showcased at an event of this calibre is both inspiring and a testament to the talent within our courses. We continue to actively pursue opportunities and animation festivals to promote and celebrate the work of our students so that their projects reach wider audiences.

  • What qualification will I gain?

    UAL Level 4 Foundation Diploma in Art and Design

  • Entry Requirements

    Applicants must be 18 years+ and have achieved a Level 3 Extended Diploma in the Creative Industries with at least Merit grade, or a Level 3 Apprenticeship, A-Levels, GCSE English at minimum Grade 4 or equivalent and ideally Maths at a grade 4 or equivalent. You must also have: • A passion for animation and visual storytelling • A willingness to learn, experiment and develop your specialism and skills • An interest in both traditional and evolving animation. We require a portfolio of work to be presented at interview.

  • What progression options will I have?

    Higher Education, studying on BA Hons and Foundation Degree level programmes. Routes directly into junior positions within the industry and apprenticeships.

  • What costs are involved?

    Tuition Fees: 16-18 - free 19+ - £5400 Exam and Registration Fees (payable by all aged 19 and over): £190 This course may also attract additional costs, for example, kit, uniform or books, that all students will be required to pay. Please contact the College for further details.

  • How will I be assessed?

    The course is made up of three main units. All units are assessed on project-based work. Unit 1 & 2 are assessed on a pass or fail basis and unit 3 will be assessed as either a Pass, Merit or Distinction. Students will receive ongoing feedback to help track their progress, set targets and ensure that they are on track to achieve their full potential. Final unit feedback is awarded at the end of each project, helping to outline areas for improvement, strengths, and overall effectiveness.
