Students from North Kent College visited a major new housing scheme to help guide how they would design the interiors of new homes on the first garden city to be developed in 100 years.
Those studying for a 2nd year Level 3 Architecture and Interior Design course visited the Castle Grange Bellway site in Ebbsfleet for an important primary research visit.
The talented cohort of future designers and architects met with senior staff from the national housebuilder as part of their course curriculum, getting the opportunity to see how Bellway are helping to meet local housing need.
As part of their final major projects, students have been given the option to create interior design concepts for a typical 3-4 bedroom Bellway show home or design a 3- or 4-bedroom Passive House for Bellway in line with national building standards.
Bellway’s Technical Manager Tom Jones kindly welcomed students to the busy construction site as part of a special tour on Tuesday, 17 March where they were also able to ask questions and meet with Bellway project and site managers.
This visit is the latest part of a strong and growing collaboration between North Kent College and Bellway in support of the course, including feedback on course projects and attendance at the student end of year design exhibition taking place on Thursday, 11 June.
Selina De La Motte, Lead lecturer 2nd Year Architecture and Interior Design at North Kent College, said: “Our collaboration with Bellway is a unique opportunity, allowing our students to work to industry standards and deadlines in readiness for apprenticeships, employment and university upon completion of their studies.
“Some of our students have already applied to Bellway for apprenticeships and we wish them every success in their applications.
“We thank Bellway for their involvement with our course and look forward to welcoming the team to our college in May for the final student presentations having kindly agreed to provide industry feedback to our students.”
