Today (12 May) is International Nurses’ Day, a time to honour the outstanding skill, dedication, and compassion of nurses around the world.
Held each year on the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the day recognises the vital role that nurses play in society, not just in hospitals, but in care homes, GP surgeries, prisons, and countless other settings where people turn to them in times of need.
Nursing is a demanding and highly skilled profession, from frontline crisis care to long-term support, nurses bring clinical expertise, emotional intelligence, and professionalism to every shift, often under immense pressure.
This year’s Nurses’ Day arrives at a time when the profession faces huge challenges, making it more important than ever to celebrate the remarkable individuals who work tirelessly to keep others safe, supported, and cared for.
