This week (8 to 14 June) marks Carers Week, a national campaign that shines a spotlight on the millions of unpaid carers who support family members and friends every single day.
Led by Carers UK and supported by a number of other charities, the week aims to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face, and recognise the incredible contribution they make to families and communities across the UK.
A report as part of last year’s Carers Week, revealed that over a fifth of people (22%) are currently providing unpaid care, and 46% of people have provided care at some point, either now or in the past. That means there are 11.9 million people currently providing unpaid care in the UK, and 24.9 million people who have provided unpaid care at some point in their lives.
Here at North Kent College, we’re proud to support the future of the care sector through our Health and Social Care courses. Students are equipped with essential knowledge and practical skills through hands-on placements and academic study, preparing them for truly rewarding careers.
If you’re naturally caring, a good listener, and want to make a difference to people’s lives, a course in Health and Social Care could be the perfect fit.
