This Emergency Services Day, we're looking at how our students are getting a taste of what it takes to work on the frontline. 9 September marks Emergency Services Day, also known as 999 Day, a national day recognising the incredible work of the emergency services and the people who support them.
For those considering a career helping others, it can also be a chance to think about what comes next. Here at North Kent Colleges Group, students can start developing those skills while at college.
Bringing emergency training to life
At NKC Dartford College and NKC Tonbridge Colleges, students now have access to fully equipped ambulance simulation vehicles, giving them the opportunity to practise realistic scenarios in an environment that closely mirrors the real world.
The simulation vehicles are part of a wider investment in immersive healthcare training.
Students also benefit from a hospital simulation ward and assisted technology suite, alongside lifelike mannequins representing babies, children, adults and older people.
It means that rather than simply learning about emergency and healthcare situations in a classroom, students can experience what it feels like to respond to them.
Preparing for a career that makes a difference
Our Public Services courses provide a route for students interested in careers across the emergency and uniformed services, including the police, fire service, armed forces and prison service.
Students develop practical skills alongside the confidence, teamwork, discipline and resilience needed for careers where no two days are the same.
For Health & Social Care students, practical experience can also support progression towards careers in the NHS and wider health and care sector, including those aspiring to become paramedics and other frontline healthcare professionals.
