Whether it’s a favourite picture book, a bold campaign poster or the packaging on your daily essentials, illustration is everywhere, and today (28 November) we celebrate it.

National Illustration Day, launched by the Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration, is all about recognising the powerful, creative, and often emotional impact that images have on our lives. From joyful scribbles to iconic designs, illustrations have the power to persuade, inspire and connect, and they play a vital role in visual communication.

This national celebration encourages everyone to draw, to look more closely at the world around them, and to share their favourite illustrated work. Whether you’re a seasoned designer or someone who hasn’t picked up a pencil in years, this is a chance to reconnect with the power of pictures.

At North Kent College, we nurture creativity through our Graphic Design & Illustration and Creative Digital Design courses.

Students experiment with a range of traditional and digital techniques, working on real industry briefs and showcasing their work to the public and potential employers. Whether your passion lies in packaging, posters, branding or books, our courses will help you develop your individual style and prepare for a creative career.

You’ll learn how to bring ideas to life through image-making, explore both hand-drawn and digital illustration, and gain a strong understanding of design history, visual storytelling and client-led project work.

With access to industry-standard studios and the chance to exhibit your work in a professional setting, our students graduate with a strong creative portfolio and the confidence to stand out.
