Our Craft and Textile course at North Kent College covers lots of different aspects of art and creative techniques. This blog will cover the basics of 5 of the many methods taught within the course to give you a taste of what Craft and Textiles has offer.
- Mixed Media
Mixed media describes artwork in which more than one medium or material has been used to create the piece. The most common forms of mixed media art are assemblages, collages, and sculpture. Mediums used to create unique pieces of art include but are not limited to, paint, textiles, paper, pencils and much more.
- Jewellery Making
Jewellery making is the art of making decorative items such as necklaces, bracelets, brooches, ear, nose and finger rings, etc. to wear on the body or on clothing. Hand crafting jewellery allows you to create bespoke and meaningful pieces with the help of jewellery making tools. Jewellery can be made from many materials including metal, clay, thread and shells.
- Print Making
Printmaking is the process of creating pieces of art by printing, normally on paper, but also on fabric, wood, metal, and other surfaces. Print making has evolved and become me complex over the years. Traditional printmaking techniques include woodcut, etching, engraving, and lithography, while modern artists have expanded available techniques to include screen-printing.
- Model Making
Model building is a craft that involves the creation of physical models either from kits or from materials and components put together by the builder or artist. This crafting method allows the builder to create 3D representations of objects, people or buildings.
- Pottery
Pottery is an ancient craft dating back to around 4000 BC. It is the craft making vessels and other objects out of clay using a high-temperature kiln. The objects a shaped and decorated to create beautiful pieces of art and homeware.
