Two students looking at computer screen

Today (Monday 28 October) is International Animation Day, a global celebration of creativity, imagination, and the art of bringing drawings to life.

First established in 2002, the day is now marked in over 50 countries, with more than 1,000 events held annually. It was created by the Association Internationale du Film d’Animation (ASIFA) to honour a historic moment in cinematic history: the first public screening of projected moving images.

That screening took place on 28 October 1892 in Paris, when inventor Émile Reynaud unveiled his “Théâtre Optique” (Optical Theatre) at the Musée Grévin.

His pioneering animation system delighted audiences with over 12,500 performances, including his early animated works known as Pantomimes Lumineuses — a true milestone in visual storytelling.

Today animation is hugely important in film, TV and theatre and it is something we take very seriously here at North Kent College in our Creative Digital Design and Creative Media courses, where you will learn from lecturers with industry experience and work in industry standard studios.
