London Fashion Week ( which starts today and runs from 18 September to 22 September) is one of the most anticipated events on the global fashion calendar, and for students at North Kent College, it serves as both inspiration and aspiration.

It’s a celebration of style, artistry, and creativity, qualities at the heart of our Fashion courses.

As Vogue puts it, London’s fashion identity is “all about fearless imagination”. One of the industry’s iconic “Big Four” fashion weeks, alongside Paris, Milan and New York, London’s biannual shows in February and September are renowned for pushing boundaries and spotlighting fresh talent.

The youngest of the four (founded in 1984), London Fashion Week is led by the British Fashion Council and has evolved from underground venues and car parks to landmark locations such as the Tate Modern.

Its daring spirit was perhaps best embodied by the late Alexander McQueen, whose 1999 show featuring supermodel Shalom Harlow being spray-painted by robotic arms remains one of fashion’s most unforgettable moments.

Gaining a spot on the runway is highly competitive, designers must apply or be scouted based on past work, but the event remains a beacon for innovation and craftsmanship.

At North Kent College, this same energy drives our Fashion courses. Whether you want to become a designer, design assistant, stylist, fashion illustrator, fashion buyer, costume designer or fashion print designer, we can help!

Courses consist of live industry-led projects, research, practical skills in sewing and print workshops, pattern cutting, surface decoration and accessories.

All projects are delivered by experienced staff with links to industry. There are visits to galleries and museums, plus collaborations with our beauty, hair, music and media departments to make the course vibrant, exciting and industry relevant. Students showcase their work at a live fashion show and end of year exhibition open to the public.
