Today (21 November) is World Television Day, not so much a celebration of the device, but of the powerful tool it has become.
Since its invention, television has played a crucial role in informing, entertaining and shaping opinion around the globe. Whether it’s streamed, broadcast or shared, screen content still shapes culture, conversations and communities in a way few other mediums can.
From breaking news to scripted drama, TV has transformed from a static box in the corner to a dynamic, multi-platform experience. The rise of streaming hasn’t replaced traditional broadcast but instead broadened what’s possible, making space for more voices, more formats, and more ways to connect with audiences around the world.
At North Kent College, we know the future of television doesn’t just lie in the screen, it begins on the stage. Our Acting courses based at our acclaimed Miskin Theatre at our Tonbridge and Dartford campuses provide a launchpad for students who want to be part of that storytelling evolution, preparing them for careers in both traditional and emerging media.
Training in industry-standard studios, our students develop their craft by working as a professional theatre company on a wide range of productions.
Collaboration is key and our actors regularly work alongside peers from our media, music, hair and make-up departments to bring screen-ready performances to life. From intimate theatre work to camera-facing performances, students gain real, relevant experience in how to deliver compelling performances across platforms.
With regular visits to theatres and film sets, and a focus on both stage and screen, our courses help students navigate a creative industry that’s constantly changing. Whether they go on to star in future streaming hits or bring new energy to the classics, they’ll be prepared to make their mark.
So this World Television Day, we celebrate not just where content is watched, but also the role colleges like ours play in developing the next generation of on-screen storytellers.
