Students looking at mock departure board

Each year on 27 September, World Tourism Day invites us to celebrate the power of travel, not just as a driver of economic growth, but as a pathway to peace.

Travel allows us to meet others, challenge assumptions, and build empathy through shared experiences. It’s a unique chance to listen to new languages, enjoy unfamiliar foods, and appreciate the customs and stories that shape different cultures.

The day remembers that whether it’s a guided city tour or a long-haul journey, every trip has the potential to expand our worldview and bring us closer together.

At its core, tourism is an industry built by people, for people. It creates jobs, supports communities and promotes international understanding. It has the power to heal divisions and encourage reconciliation, showing that the more we explore, the more we understand.

If you dream of a career where no two days are the same and the world is your workplace, studying a Travel and Tourism course at North Kent College could be the ideal route. You’ll learn in realistic training environments including our on-site mock aeroplane cabin, giving you hands-on experience for roles in cabin crew, tour operations, holiday resorts and more.

Taught by professionals with real industry insight, our courses are designed to help you thrive in this vibrant, fast-paced sector. You’ll build the practical skills, confidence and knowledge needed to turn a passion for travel into a profession with purpose.

If you're inspired to be part of that, start your journey at North Kent College by visiting the Travel and Tourism subject page.
