STCW AMENDED 2010 FIRE PREVENTION & FIRE FIGHTING

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course is designed to give candidates a basic understanding of types of fires, methods of extinguishing them and the onboard firefighting equipment. Candidates are introduced to basic equipment maintenance, the use of breathing apparatus and search and rescue techniques as well as live firefighting. The Centre's purpose-built Fire Training Centre, together with teaching staff whose experience of the Merchant Navy and Fire Brigade procedures, ensures a realistic and testing course, in a controlled environment.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
Protective clothing will be provided, and it is recommended that you bring suitable working clothes or overalls with you. Please also bring with you two t-shirts, one each to wear on each separate course day. This course contains some exercises that are physically demanding; any candidate in doubt about their fitness for such a course should consult their doctor prior to attendance.
Candidates will also need to bring with them proof of identity (either a seaman’s discharge book or other national identification).
