Today (9 September) marks Emergency Services Day, also known as 999 Day, a national day across the UK that recognises the incredible work and dedication of the NHS and emergency services.

Backed by HM The King, HRH The Prince of Wales and the UK Government, 999 Day is an opportunity to reflect on the vital role that emergency services professionals, including police officers, paramedics, firefighters, coastguards, NHS workers and volunteers, play in keeping us safe every single day.

The day is not only about saying thank you. It also highlights the importance of using emergency services responsibly, educates the public about life-saving skills, and promotes the many exciting career and volunteering opportunities available across these critical services.

It also celebrates the amazing work done by 999 charities and honours those who have served, past and present.
