Today (Wednesday 5 August) is National Playday, the UK’s biggest celebration of children’s right to play and a powerful reminder of just how vital play is for healthy development, creativity and wellbeing.
First held in 1987, Playday began as a response to threats to children’s play services in London. Over the years, it has grown into a nationwide campaign with hundreds of events taking place across the UK, from community street parties and festivals in parks, to wild adventures in woods, fields and beaches.
Playday is more than just fun, it’s a message to decision-makers about the importance of protecting opportunities for children to play. Play is fundamental to childhood, supporting physical and emotional development, social skills, independence, and lifelong learning.
Here at North Kent College, we understand just how important play is in the Early Years. That’s why our Early Years courses focus on nurturing the skills needed to support a child’s holistic development.
Learners gain hands-on experience through industry placements and explore outdoor learning through Forest School sessions, delivered by our dedicated Forest School Leader.
