Our level 3 course in NxtGen Animation and Visual Storytelling is aimed at students starting out on their journey to become animators and visual storytellers, making their dream careers become reality. This course will equip students with both traditional and evolving creative, technical, and storytelling skills needed to work in the animation industry.
During the 1st year of the course students will be introduced and learn the fundamental drawing and design principles for animation. You will have the opportunity to gain a firm understanding of the whole animation pipeline, including the 12 principles of animation. You will research a variety of influences and generate ideas for designing characters and environments, taking it one step further by animating them.
Projects will focus on learning the animation and storytelling process and developing your own creative practice. For each project brief, you will get the opportunity to learn, practice and develop skills such as anatomy and perspective drawing, story and narrative design and other design principles culminating in an end of year project where you get the freedom to specialise in your chosen areas of animation.
The aim of the 2nd year will be to build on your specialist area of animation and visual storytelling skills, developing the skills that will prepare you for working in the industry or applying to university.
The course is delivered in our animation studios through hands-on workshops with industry standard software, such as the Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects and Animate, and Harmony Toon Boom, on high specification Apple computers. Being part of Creative Studios, you will also have access to our hub of Apple Mac computers, 3D printers, graphics tablets and iPads with Procreate/Dreams. Our ethos is to align with the creative industries as much as possible, meaning that our trainees develop skills that meet industry needs whilst becoming familiar with the pipelines they follow as well as engaging with live client briefs, opportunities for work experience and guest speakers from the animation industry.
We continue to actively pursue opportunities and animation festivals to promote and celebrate the work of our students so that their projects reach wider audiences.
So, if this all sounds like a career you wish to pursue, apply today.
