This is a taster course providing aspiring artists with the opportunity to explore many different media / techniques and develop skills in different areas. Elements of painting, printmaking, photography and sculpture will be underpinned throughout by drawing skills and research activities. All work will lead towards a final project centred around a personally chosen theme, area of interest and specialism. Additionally functional skills and work skills are undertaken to help you progress.
You will have access to industry standard studios/ workshops and working with tutors who are professionals in their own field.
This course provides you the opportunity to work in a professional environment which is different to school and gain greater knowledge of the art and design world. This is furthered by live briefs and working with clients to gain skills to further your understanding of the industry, in the past learners have worked with Eleanor Hospice and the NHS to produce work for them.
Our Education Programme includes opportunities for you to develop your English and maths skills as required, depending on your GCSE results upon entry.

What qualification will I gain?

Entry Requirements
Minimum of four GCSEs at grade 3 or above including English and preferably maths and one creative subject. Or an equivalent Level 1 Diploma in Art at merit or above. You will need a positive school report/recommendation/reference from your school/tutor. (Applicants who are home schooled, with no formal qualifications, will be required to take college internal assessments; in addition to the below, to determine their suitability for the demands of the course).
You will also be required to attend an interview with your portfolio of art and design work to demonstrate your practical and creative skills. You may also be asked to do a pre interview task to bring along to your interview.

What progression options will I have?
The Level 2 Diploma allows students to progress into their preferred specialist Level 3 Diploma courses within Art and Creative Digital Design. Choosing from the areas below: Art and Design 3D Design and Architecture Graphic Design and Illustration Motion Graphics and Animation

What costs are involved?
Tuition Fees: 16-18 - free 19+ - ?1650 Exam and Registration Fees (payable by all aged 19 and over): ?175 This course may also attract additional costs, for example, kit, uniform or books, that all students will be required to pay. Please contact the College for further details.

How will I be assessed?
All of your work will follow a vocational scenario or context that simulates a real-world situation. This course is 100 % coursework. You will present your work in a range of formats. You will be assessed on your research, development and experimentation and final outcomes and you will be encouraged to develop your work and professional practice through evaluation and self-reflection.
