COURSE CERTIFICATION

This course complies with the recommendations and requirements of Maritime and Coastguard Agency Notices MGN 97 and MIN 471(M), and a certificate is issued after successful completion of examination.  On production of this, the Registrar will endorse the student's Discharge Book.

This is a revision course, so students are expected to have a reasonable level of prior knowledge.  Course notes are given, although some note taking and evening study is required.  Working gear is required for some practical lessons.

Please note all courses will run subject to achieving minimum bookings - if insufficient bookings are received to run an effective course, delegates will be offered the opportunity to transfer to a later date, or a full refund of the course fee paid.

COURSE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must:

  • Be at least 17 years of age
  • Have 6 months sea service on vessels of at least 15m or over in load line length (vessels include yachts, fishing vessels, tugs, workboats and Royal Navy vessels). This sea service can be reduced to 2 months with ‘special training’ ie when following an MNTB course or MCA approved course
  • Have successfully completed the four elements of STCW basic training:

Personal Survival Techniques (STCW A-VI/1-1)

Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting (STCW A-VI/1-2)

Elementary First Aid (STCW A-VI/1-3)

Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities (STCW A-VI/1-4)

  • Have completed the Navigational Watch Rating training record book (Annex A).
  • Hold an ENG1 or MCA accepted equivalent.
