Local Lecturer heads off to Hell

6th December 2017

A North Kent College lecturer has headed into the depths of darkness in writing his 26th book, with a little help from former student. Neil Nixon – who runs the Foundation Degree in Professional Writing at the college – has written The Devil’s Jukebox; a trawl of the 100 tunes that Satan himself might collect on his personal jukebox.

The book is a collection of incredible stories – including one that argues a Cliff Richard single would be on that jukebox – and a downloading of the same musical knowledge that allows Neil to present an alternative music show on Miskin Radio (a community radio station located in the college buildings). The cover design was achieved with some help from former Professional Writing student Kitty Turner who provided a close up shot of her own coal fire at home to blend with the cartoon Devil image on the front cover.

Neil says: “Writing this book was certainly the kind of guilty pleasure that meant completing the book never felt like work. I’m honoured that I managed to get my name on the first book on Kitty’s CV. She’s a talented and hard-working writer so that CV should have some more titles on it before too long!”
