Putting on The Ritz

10th May 2019

Two of our Level 3 Catering students, Phoebe Rimell and Jacob Sarsam, had an unforgettable week whilst on work experience at the historical hotel The Ritz in London.

During the week Phoebe and Jacob got to work in various areas within the kitchen to give them an insight into all the different skills that would be required whilst working at The Ritz. They got to witness and be part of the team that creates hundreds of dishes each day, by helping to prep the ingredients in the cavernous kitchens located below the famous landmark.

Keith Campbell, Catering Lecturer, commented “Phoebe and Jacob have progressed well on their Level 3 programme this year and this was an ideal opportunity for them to enhance their skills further. Both students worked extremely hard throughout the week and got a lot out of this opportunity. I’m pleased that both students got to experience working in fine dining within the Michelin Star environment”.
As part of their qualification, all Level 3 Catering students are required to secure part-time work in the industry, allowing them to gain experience away from the College environment whilst still gaining their qualification. Most students work locally but continue to explore other avenues and experiences to enhance their CV’s further. What better a place to achieve this than at The Ritz!

We would like to say thank you to our former student, Connor Farrer, who works at the Ritz as a Chef de Partie, for helping us set up this amazing work placement for our students. To see them in action, please enjoy our video below!
