North Kent College has been recognised nationally for its work in English and Maths after being invited to contribute to a recent Department for Education (DfE) publication.
The College was one of just 20 further education colleges selected to take part in evidence gathering for the report, which is being shared with colleges across the country. The invitation followed sustained success in English and Maths outcomes and the College’s strategic approach to improving both achievement and engagement.
In November, a member of the FE Commissioners’ team spent a full day at the College meeting with senior leaders and speaking directly with learners. The visit focused on understanding what is working effectively within the College environment to support student progress in English and Maths, from recruitment and staffing strategies through to classroom practice and learner support.
The resulting publication identifies ten key themes drawn from the participating colleges.
Michaela Sesay, Assistant Principal (English and Maths), was delighted that the college was involved, saying: “We were very pleased to contribute to this national publication and to share our experience with colleagues across the sector. Success in English and Maths is not driven by one initiative alone. It is the result of consistent leadership, high expectations, strong teaching, and a culture that supports both staff and learners to achieve their best.”
The DfE report will now be circulated nationally, enabling colleges to reflect on shared learning and effective practice identified through the evidence gathered.
