North Kent College is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of Stanley Smith, one of our T Level Accounting students, who recently received his certificate for winning the Young Person of the Year award at the Dartford Business Awards.

The certificate was presented by his employer, CKR Accountants, recognising his exceptional commitment and growth throughout his Industry Placement.

Stanley’s journey has been truly inspiring. Joining his placement later in the course meant he faced the additional challenge of completing his required hours within a shorter timeframe. Through sheer dedication and determination —attending twice a week around his college timetable and exams —he overcame the challenge and is now reaping the rewards of his hard work.

A special thank you goes to Melissa and Director Kul Suhl (pictured) from CKR Accountants for their exceptional support. Not only did they provide Stanley with an Industry Placement, but they have also offered him a full-time apprenticeship to further his accounting studies.

Kul spoke highly of the experience of hosting a T Level placement:

“It was a positive experience. Stanley settled in quickly, and it was great to see how motivated he was to learn and get involved. His confidence grew throughout the placement, and he became a real asset to the team. His enthusiasm and willingness to learn stood out, and it’s been rewarding to watch him develop his skills. I’d happily host future T Level students based on this experience.”

Kul also praised the support received from North Kent College and T Level Industry Placement Coordinator Trisha:

“The clear communication from the start, regular check-ins, and reviews has been helpful. The process felt smooth and well structured, which made hosting a first placement much easier.”

Stanley also shared his experience on the placement while also praising the support he received from CKR and the college helping him grow personally and professionally:

“I found the placement enjoyable and a great learning experience. Being in a real work environment helped me build confidence and understand how the skills I’m learning at college apply day-to-day. I felt very supported throughout the placement, Melissa and the team were always there to guide me, answer questions and give me opportunities to get involved in different tasks. This experience has helped me feel more certain about my future goals. I’m hoping to continue developing my skills and eventually move into a full-time role in this field. The placement has motivated me and given me a clearer idea of the career path I want to follow.”
