The Level 2 Motorsport students had the opportunity to attend the final round of the British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch on Friday 3rd October. The trip aimed to enrich their learning and provide valuable insight into potential career paths within the motorsport industry.

The Motorsport department at North Kent College continues to drive student ambition with hands-on learning experiences designed to open doors into the exciting world of professional racing.

A highlight of the day was a pit tour hosted by West Surrey Racing (WSR), the most successful team in BTCC history and famously the starting point of Ayrton Senna’s legendary career. Students explored the team’s operations up close, viewing the race cars and gaining a unique understanding of the preparation and precision required at the top level of competition.

Following the tour, students were encouraged to visit other team setups, speak with managers, and even hand out their CVs, creating potential networking and work experience opportunities. They also enjoyed the chance to test their skills on driving simulators and browse motorsport memorabilia at Alex Reade’s shop.

The day offered more than just excitement; it directly supported the students’ coursework, with several aspects of the experience linking back to key elements of their programme.

Overall, it was a thrilling and educational day, giving students a deeper appreciation of Britain’s premier racing category and inspiring them to pursue their ambitions in the motorsport industry.
