Student looking across scenic landscape with hands in air

A North Kent College Personal Training and Sports Science student has returned from a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to develop her trail running skills alongside world-class athletes, at an elite training camp in the mountains of Girona in Spain.

Lexie Johnson spent a week running high-altitude routes, learning from professionals, and preparing for her upcoming challenge: the prestigious Mont Blanc Youth Marathon Race in Chamonix this June.

“I got given the opportunity to go on a training camp in Girona to experience running in the trails and mountains. We had the opportunity to meet and speak to lots of different pro athletes such as Vincent Luis, Imogen Cotter, Christian Meier and run with Jenny Spink”, she said.

“During the training camp we ran every day with very high elevation gain routes and also had the chance to do some sweat testing with Precision Fuel, which was interesting!”

Lexie earned her place on the camp after joining the Alpine Run Project, a development initiative aimed at supporting young, talented trail runners. She said: “I took on the opportunity as I wanted to improve and learn more about trail running as I get closer to my race – The Mont Blanc Youth Marathon in Chamonix in June!”

Lorraine Blue, Head of Curriculum for Personal Training and Sports Therapy, said: “Lexie has been an exemplary student over the past two years at College. She is highly driven by her sport and is motivated to be the best she can be in all aspects of both her academic achievement and her pursuits in running.”

“She is always willing to support her peers and staff with any task handed to her. She is going to excel as she moves into the next chapter of her life when leaving college this June and we will certainly miss her buzz and enthusiasm”.

North Kent College’s Personal Training and Sports Science courses are offered at its Dartford and Tonbridge campuses, and give students access to top class facilities, including a large multi-purpose sports hall, three sports fields, a strength and conditioning room and a fitness suite.
