Classmates join daughters of Premier League star in creating social media hit: Do the Hassel to show their support and inspire another week on the hit BBC show.
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s wiggle has been the talk of this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing with his daughters providing him with the inspiration and drive to shine on the dance floor.
His stylish rumba has been described by judges as ‘among the best in the show’s history’ inspiring two of his girls – Lauren and Miah – to start a social media trend, called ‘Do the Hassel’ based on the classic 70s number.
Lauren is currently studying for a diploma in dance and musical theatre at Miskin Theatre Arts, based at the Dartford campus of North Kent College. Both sisters are already making their mark in the entertainment industry, including starring roles in the musical Netflix adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Matilda.
With the help of talented classmates, they have gone viral by recording and performing a special dance in support of the Premiership footfall icon as he prepares to return to the dancefloor on Saturday night. It’s estimated a clip of
the performance, shown on companion show, Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two, was seen by between two and three million people alone.
Vicky Wyatt, Head of Curriculum for Dance and Musical, said: “We’ve all been glued to this year’s Strictly and supporting Lauren and her sisters as they cheer on and support their dad including some useful tips along the way. It was also great to see the talents of all the students from Miskin Theatre Arts who joined Lauren and Miah in doing the ‘hassel.’
“Lauren is already showing she has the talent, skills and attitude for a successful performance career, whether that’s in film or theatre. We couldn’t be prouder of her at North Kent College.”
Miskin Theatre Arts is a vocational performing arts college based on the Dartford campus of North Kent College. It gives all its actors, dancers, musicians and technicians a taste of today’s performance industry, providing a centre of excellence that allows students to experience, explore and achieve at the highest level possible.
